LABORIE Receives Innovative Technology Designation from Vizient, Inc. for PORTASCAN™ 3D Bladder Scanner

LABORIE’s Portascan™ 3D received Innovative Technology Designation from Vizient, Inc. the largest member-driven health care performance improvement company in the country. Innovation Technology Designation recognizes products that bring improvements to the health care industry. The designation was based on reviews of Portascan 3D by hospital experts who attended Vizient’s Innovative Technology Exchange in September 2016.

The event provided medical technology suppliers the opportunity to demonstrate their product and gain direct feedback from 1300 onsite clinical experts and health care providers on the impact their products may have on improving clinical care, safety, or benefits to an organization’s care and business model.

Portascan 3D is an advanced 3D automatic bladder scanner with live pre-scan functionality and does not require annual calibration. With live ultrasound functionality it allows the user to quickly find the bladder so the Portascan 3D can accurately calculate the bladder volume. Portascan 3D provides reliable information, thus reducing the frequency of catheterization and risk of UTIs (CAUTI).  It is also a valuable tool for providing post-void residual volume (PVR) to assess possible urinary retention.

Portascan 3D Features & Benefits:

  • Easy-to-use targeting and real-time scanning modes, ideal for non-specialists or experienced users.
  • Reduces unnecessary catheterizations and associated Urinary Tract Infections.
  • Automatic 3D scanning for fast and accurate bladder volumes.
  • Calibration not required, reducing time and cost of annual maintenance.
  • Touchscreen interface enhances procedure simplicity.
  • Lightweight ultra-portable design.
  • Easy point-and-freeze operation provides results within 5 seconds.
  • High-capacity internal memory for saving patient data.
  • Simple-to-use, ergonomically designed probe.
  • Universal female patient setting, gives an accurate reading whether the patient has had a hysterectomy or not

“With a high number of products and services being released and marketed as ‘innovative’, our member hospitals truly value the peer-review system in place at Vizient to help them identify products worth further evaluation at their own facilities,”  said Debbie Archer, director of procurement and leader of Vizient’s Innovative Technology program for suppliers.  “After a review of the Portascan 3D, Vizient’s members agreed this product offers unique and incremental benefit over other products available on the market today, and recommended it for an Innovative Technology designation.”
