Clinical Utility of Lung-Generated Pressures in Determining Valsalva Leak Point Pressure in Patients Undergoing Urodynamic Studies

The aim of this study is to examine the utility of measuring Plung during Urodynamics in patients complaining of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) symptoms. Valsalva Leak Point Pressure (VLPP) is a measure of urethral function and is defined as the intravesical pressure at which urine leakage occurs due to increased abdominal pressure in the absence of a detrusor contraction. VLPP is a quantitative assessment that provides clinical information in determining if stress urinary incontinence is present.

Comparison of Water and Air-Charged Transducer Catheters in the Evaluation of Cystometrogram Pressures

The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate reproducibility of air-charged versus water-perfused catheters when measuring stress point pressures, such as coughs and valsalva movements in urodynamic studies. The comparison was analyzed during a cystometrogram (CMG) test. The present study introduced a single catheter technique that was conceptualized for the CMG. We believe that the single, dual catheter, fastidious work, and the same experience clinician throughout the study will provide analogous point pressures for coughs and valsalva movements in…

Comparison of Water and Air-Charged Transducer Catheters in the Evaluation of Urethral Pressures

The aim of this study is to determine if there is a significant difference between air-charged and water-perfused urethral pressure measurements, namely maximum urethral closure pressures in urodynamic testing. There have been previous studies that investigated the differences between air-charged and water-perfused catheters; however, this current study introduced a single catheter technique that was conceptualized in order to overcome the limitations of double-catheterization including better patient comfort, decreased alteration of the natural urethral closure mechanism and a lessened risk of…

Novel Method and Measurement of the Valsalva Leak Point Pressure Using Lung-Generated Pressures

The aim of this study is to identify and measure the relationship between lung and rectal pressures under Valsalva conditions using the principals of Pascal’s law. Using a novel mouthpiece design developed by Dr. Alexandre Menezes, we sought to demonstrate equivalency between lung and rectal pressures in order to discover a method of measuring the Valsalva leak point pressure which would not require catheterization and would therefore be non-invasive in nature.
