GASTROGENIUS

Desktop breath monitor for combined methane, hydrogen and oxygen measurement.

GASTROGENIUS

- Overview

Gastrogenius is a portable desktop monitor that measures hydrogen (H2), methane (Ch4) and oxygen (O2) levels. It aids health professionals in the diagnosis of gastro-intestinal disorders like food malabsorption, sugar intolerances and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

Hydrogen and Methane Breath Testing (HMBT) using the Gastrogenius, permits the diagnosis of patients who produce methane, hydrogen or a combination of both.

Real-time end-tidal oxygen levels and user-friendly patient cues help to generate accurate samples. The Gastrogenius also provides automatic O2 correction for more accurate results.

+ Clinical Information

Hydrogen and Methane Breath Testing

Hydrogen Breath Testing (HBT) is a non-invasive, sensitive means of detection for gastro-intestinal disorders. Hydrogen breath tests make use of gut bacteria’s ability to digest sugars and convert these to hydrogen, which is then absorbed into the blood and can be measured in exhaled breath. The tests can be used to detect gastro-intestinal disorders like food malabsorption, sugar intolerances and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

A group of patients does not produce hydrogen and would not be diagnosed by Hydrogen Breath Testing (HBT) alone. By performing Hydrogen and Methane Breath Testing (HMBT) misdiagnosing can be prevented for patients who don’t produce hydrogen, but methane or a combination of both.
