Course Description
Urinary incontinence is a problem that affects over thirty million Americans. In the great majority of these cases, it can either be cured, treated or managed successfully. Once screened by a doctor, many patients can benefit from the conservative approach to treatment, which includes education and lifestyle changes, bladder training, pelvic floor exercises, manual therapy techniques and pelvic muscle rehabilitation.
This course serves as an introduction to the conservative approach to the treatment of urinary incontinence, with a particular focus on the use of rehabilitation for the pelvic floor musculature.
Course Objectives
* Identify the basic testing required in the evaluation of pelvic floor dysfunction.
* List the non-surgical options for treating urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, pelvic pain and voiding dysfunction.
* Describe the etiology of female vs. male incontinence.
* Identify drugs which are used to treat pelvic floor dysfunctions.
* Understand basic coding and reimbursement for pelvic floor rehabilitation.
* Demonstrate use of non-surgical application of clinical lab equipment with treatment protocols.
* Demonstrate successful operation of pelvic floor therapy equipment in a controlled setting.
