Course Description

To provide an educational opportunity to the new urodynamic examiner who seeks assistance in interpreting urodynamic
testing results and applying this to their practice. All ICS guidelines for urodynamic testing will be observed.
 

Course Objectives

1. Basic anatomy and physiology of the urinary system - LUTS
2. What to investigate: failure to store, failure to empty
3. Components of the urodynamic investigation
   a. Pre-urodynamic testing needs (Voiding diary; Lab Tests; Physical Exam)
   b. When to prescribe urodynamics
   c. Which tests are appropriate
   d. How to integrate UDS with complete urinary system evaluation
   e. Including - Uroflow, CMG, EMG, Leak point pressure testing, Pressure/Flow study, Urethral Pressure
       Profiles
4. Review of previously conducted urodynamic studies
   a. Examples of wide range of scenarios
      i. Detrusor overactivity (Neurogenic; OAB w/ incontinence; idiopathic); Stress urinary incontinence;
     Compliance; Obstructive voiding patterns (Male, female, dysfunctional voiding, Detrusor/sphincter
     dyssynergia)
      ii. Detrusor underactivity
   b. Relating the graphical display and the report summaries to the accurate diagnosis
5. How to integrate urodynamic testing into physicians’ practice
   a. How this fits into the evaluation of patients
   b. How UDS results can guide treatment plans
   c. How to correctly bill for procedures
